A memory technique for remembering terms, questions, arguments, or quoted speeches, 1499
Elder’s Notes
A memory technique for remembering terms was a very short 8 page tract published in 1499 in Ingolstadt.
This tract is a bit of a mystery. There’s no author, it’s very short, and it doesn’t provide much context for the method it shares.
My read on this text is that it’s a card (or slip/leaves) based mnemonic. You place and organize cards in different geometric patterns, creating memory palaces on the fly.
This tract also shares a permutation based multiplayer mnemonic game for learning Latin.
This was probably printed as a school aid, since it lacks a lot of context. It is interesting though. Card based mnemonics have a lot of potential.
